As life gets more complicated each day, people are turning to phone and tablet apps to meditate and relieve stress. They are looking for an app to teach them to relax and get them into a relaxed state when needed. Because there are many alternatives available, it can be hard to know which app is right for you.

I work with clients who have a lot of stress and anxiety in their lives. Their nervous systems are more accustom to fight or flight than emotional balance. This high anxiety pattern is bad for their emotions and health. So, I searched for a meditation app they can use at home to relax throughout the day.

I wanted to find an app that was intuitive and didn’t take a lot of time to learn. I also wanted one that offers the most basic functions because, the more meditations, journals, and surveys built into an app, the quicker clients stop using it. Finally, I wanted an app that had good narration to guide clients through meditation and teach them methods to relax.

Best Relaxation and Meditation App I Discovered

The app I found is called Relax and Rest Guided Meditations by Meditation Oasis. It has helped my clients learn to relax at home. It can be downloaded on any iOS or Android phone or tablet at a low cost of $1.99.

The app has three types of ready-to-use meditations: Breath Awareness Guided Meditation (5 minutes), Deep Rest Guided Meditation (13 minutes), and Whole Body Guided Relaxation (24 minutes). If you want to schedule your own length of meditation, you can customize the duration with one click.

Each meditation is narrated with a pleasant voice and soothing background music or nature sounds. You can adjust the narration and background volumes, and choose different backgrounds that fit your mood. You can also just listen to background music or nature sounds without narration. The customization features are kept to a minimum, with only the most important ones available. This keeps the app simple and effective to use.

I encourage my clients to use the app in the morning, during a midday break, and while they are in bed for sleep. This routine keeps their nervous system and stress response in balance throughout the day. If you can only meditate once a day, use the app at night so it helps you relax and slows your brain waves for a restful state.

Meditation Oasis has other apps available for sleep and learning to relax.
