More About Michael
Michael Cerreto is a Certified Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapist and a Certified Sports Psychology Counselor. He helps children, adults, and families comeback from an acquired brain injury to create a life of meaning and achievement. He also helps elite athletes develop the mental skills needed to perform up to their full potential, dominate, and win.
Michael holds a United States Top Secret Security Clearance that enables him to work in highly secure environments. He consults to the U. S. Department of Defense, government agencies, and corporations through his Corporate Competitor program to help leaders use the same mental skills as elite athletes to become strong competitors and warriors.
Michael provides cognitive therapy and sports counseling, not traditional psychological talk-therapy for personality disorders. If in the course of our work he identifies a possible personality or medical disorder that needs to be addressed, he refers the client to a medical professional, and works collaboratively with that professional as needed.
The following lists Michael's therapeutic partnerships with leading organizations, education and certifications, faculty positions, publishing, speeches, and athletic achievements.
Partnerships With Leading Organizations
A Talented Mind has partnerships with other leading organizations to address clients' education, cognitive retraining, and mental performance needs.
Brain Tumor Patients and Caregivers
Michael Cerreto is the co-facilitator of the Richmond Brain Tumor Support Group for adults with brain tumors and their families at St. Mary's Hospital. Because the support group is a non-profit organization, he is a member of its executive steering committee overseeing the organization's leadership.
Chronic Pain Patients
We are currently developing a program with VCU Orthopedic Department at VCU Health in Short Pump, Virginia to help orthopedic patients with chronic pain. The partnership is working on helping patients create self-care plans to manage the intensity of emotions they experience living with pain each day.
Athletes’ Mental Performance
We have sports psychology education, testing, and counseling partnerships with FC Richmond Soccer, a leading soccer organization in Virginia, and Richmond Olympiad, a premier USA Junior Olympic Training Center. Our partnerships provide SportsParent groups about how parents can nurture the mental skills and emotions of competitive athletes, SportsMind Clinics to teach athletes how to be mentally competitive, and individual testing and counseling to improve mental performance under pressure.
Performing Artists' Mental Performance
A Talented Mind has a partnership with the Richmond Symphony in its Youth Orchestra Program to help developing musicians strengthen the mental skills, leadership, and self-responsibility needed to develop musically, artistically, and in life. We also provide education to parents of young musicians about how to nurture their talents in age appropriate ways.
Major International Research Collaboration: PercussionMind
A Talented Mind has a major research partnership with the James Madison University School of Music to study the mental performance styles of the top 50 world-class percussionists across 14 countries. This landmark study will help music students internationally learn from the world's best percussionists about how to mentally perform to enhance artistry, technical mastery, performance under pressure, and careers development.
Cancer Patients With Chemobrain
We have education partnerships with Surgical Associates of Richmond and The Hawthorne Cancer Resource Center in Richmond, Virginia, and the John Theurer Cancer Center, Hackensack University Medical Center, in New Jersey. Our partnerships educate cancer patients and survivors about how to use every-day methods to improve the cognitive difficulties they experience from cancer and treatment called chemobrain.
